I’m New

We are glad you’re here.

Welcome to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. We encourage you to join us for worship and become a part of the St. Luke’s community. We seek to offer a safe space for everyone who walks through our doors, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

We share a meal of Holy Communion at all of our Sunday worship services, and our table is open to all Baptized Christians of any denomination and any age. It is the Lord’s Table where we experience forgiveness and grace. If you do not wish to receive communion, you may still come forward to receive a blessing.

What We Believe

Lutherans are Evangelical:

We reach out to share the message of God’s gracious forgiveness. Evangelical means the “good news” of Jesus Christ. Lutherans have a slogan which says, “We are justified by God’s grace through faith.” This good news means that we are made right with God and each other by God’s mercy through trust in God’s promises.

Lutherans Love Serving Others as Christ Has Served Us:

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church is strongly linked to more than 140 congregations in South Carolina in what’s called the South Carolina Synod. We are also a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with nearly 3.5 million members in more than 9,100 worshiping communities scattered across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. Known as the church of “God’s work. Our hands,” the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians and service in the world. The ELCA’s roots are in the writings of German church reformer, Martin Luther, the very first Protestant. We believe that being part of a nationwide church allows our congregation to have a bigger view of the opportunities and challenges of what it means to be God’s people.

Lutherans are Baptized:

Lutherans believe that baptism is a commandment of Christ, who declared that “no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit,” (John 3:5). We consider baptism to be a gift of God. Holy Baptism is our birth into the family of God. We baptize infants, children, and adults, for we believe that God’s grace is at work in each of them as a gift of the Holy Spirit. We live out our lives in response to the amazing gift of God’s love as we return daily to the promises God has made to us in our baptism and as we shine Christ’s light into the world through our love for and service to one another.

Lutherans regularly share Holy Communion:

Lutherans believe that Christ is present in, with, and under the elements of bread and wine in Holy Communion. We share this meal every Sunday because Christ shared a supper with his disciples on the night before he went to the cross, telling them to take and eat the bread and drink from the cup, for this was his body that was broken and blood poured out for the forgiveness of sins. This meal is holy to us, as it declares to us the gracious forgivess of our sins, and it celebrates that we are all part of the family of God, gathered around the cross as we wait for the day when he returns.

Lutherans are Sinners and Saints

Reborn through the waters of baptism and given a seat at God’s table, we journey through this world realizing that we are saints, but also still sinners, who continue to make mistakes and miss the mark. We recognize that no matter how good we may try to be, we are always in need of God’s forgiveness and grace. We respond to God’s love by growing in faith and reaching out in love to others. We want to tell and demonstrate the Good News of Jesus Christ. So, we invite you to join us on this journey of faith in the midst of a trouble-filled world. Come and rejoice with us in the promises of a loving Lord, Jesus Christ, who makes us siblings to one another.
