You are invited to worship with St. Luke’s congregation as we celebrate the Triduum, or The Great Three Days, which include Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Join us as we celebrate the story of Christ’s final meal with his disciples, his journey to the cross to lay down his life for the salvation of the world, and his resurrection from the dead. Our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services will be Livestreamed below, if you would like to worship with us from your own home.
Maundy comes from the Latin “mandatum,” meaning commandment. The theme of Maundy Thursday is Jesus’ new commandment to “love one another as I have loved you.” The service does not follow our typical order of worship. Instead it starts with the sermon, confession and absolution, followed by the sharing of the peace. This is done to conclude the season of penitence that began on Ash Wednesday. As we receive absolution and share God’s peace with our brothers and sisters in Christ, we follow the “mandate” to love one another. Before we depart, we strip the altar area of vestments as a sign of Jesus’ abandonment. The service does not end with a blessing, as tonight will continue with the services on Good Friday. Thus we enter the final days of Lent, focusing and meditating on Christ’s love for us in his suffering, death, and glorious resurrection.

At the heart of the Good Friday liturgy is the Passion according to John, which proclaims Jesus as a triumphant king who reigns from the cross. The ancient title for this day—”The Triumph of The Cross”—reminds us that the church gathers not to mourn this day but to celebrate Christ’s life-giving Passion and to find strength and hope in the tree of life. In the ancient bidding prayer, we offer petitions for all the world for whom Christ died. Tonight’s service culminates Easter Morning.
