First Communion Class

Every year on Wednesday during Holy Week, St. Luke’s holds a First Communion Class to teach the baptized children of our church the significance of the meal of Holy Communion, which we share every time we gather together in worship. This class includes baking communion bread together, creating a Communion Banner, and teachings from our Pastors, as he children learn that there is a place for them at the table of our Lord. On the following evening at our Maundy Thursday Service, where we commemorate the story of Christ’s Last Supper with his disciples, children receive their First Communion around the altar. At this celebration of Holy Communion, the bread that we share is the same bread that the children made at First Communion Class the night before. In addition, the children’s Communion Banners are displayed at the front of the church.

If your child would like to take part in our First Communion Class this year during Holy Week, please contact the church office.
