St. Luke’s Lutheran Church was established in 1892 and is an ELCA congregation located in historic downtown Summerville, SC, located only 45 minutes from Charleston, Isle of Palms and Folly Beach. We have a vibrant and friendly, welcoming and energetic congregation with people of all ages engaged in the life of the church. We have more than 200 families who are active in our ministries. We are searching for a flexible, energetic, creative and personable self-starter; who would be responsible for helping to build relationships between all members to help form the faith. This position will be primarily focused on growing faith in the children and youth of St. Luke’s. They will also help create and lead intergenerational (faith webbing) ministries where relationships can be built among all church members.

The Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries will work with children, youth, families and volunteer leaders to create and lead programs that promote relationships with Christ, our St. Luke’s family, and the larger community. Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries
Description: St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Summerville, SC, seeks to hire a director of Children and Youth, who will intentionally build a partnership and develop ministry that involves children, youth, and adults in a safe, fun, loving, and faith-nurturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive faith formation program for children through high school that facilitates the building of faith through relationships formed for all ages.
- Identify relationship voids for young people’s lives, andf ill those voidos with church members who can influence the development of faith.
- Create and lead monthly events designed to connect, children, youth, and young adults.
- Regularly cast vision, recruit, train, mentor, appreciate, celebrate, and oversee a team of adult volunteer leaders who will lead and encourage students to explore, connect, serve, and grow in faith
- Equip and inspire parents to nurture their children’s spiritual growth.
- Nurture programs of faith formation for the wider congregation.
- Other duties as assigned by the pastors.
Accountabilities
- Develop and implement faith formation programming that includes regular meetings with middle and high school youth, childrne, and young adults.
- Facilitate and support faith-formation programming for young adults and families.
- Develop meaningful, faith-based relationships with children, youth, young adults, and families in our church.
- Participate in weekly worship services. (Includes leading Children’s Church and bi-monthly children’s sermons in co-ordination with the Pastors.)
- Monthly meetings with Discipleship Committee
- Weekly meetings with Pastors, Staff, and Sunday School Team
- Develop and facilitate weekly program for the calendar year to include regular meetings and special programming. (Includes Youth Group, Wednesday Night Live, and Bi-Monthly Faith Webbing Events)
- Effectively communicate with the congregation.
- Co-ordinate and train children and youth worship participants (acolytes, crucifers, etc.).
- Develop and Implement Seasonal Events in co-ordination with other Church Staff (VBS, Intergenerational Activity during Midweek Advent/Lent Worship, Christmas Eve Family Service, Easter Morning Activity, Youth Gathering/Mission Trip, etc).
Job Requirements
- Strong foundation in the Christian Faith (Grounded in the ELCA or similiar liturgical tradition is preferred).
- Experience with and passion for working with children, youth, and their families in the grace of Jesus.
- Experience recruiting, creating, developing, and deploying volunteer teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for use in a variety of situations, from large community gatherings to information meetings.
- Excellent relationship-building skills
- Ability to organize, focus, and multi-task
- Ability to work with a team
- Proficient with social media platforms
- Two references from a Supervisor, Pastor, or other person who can address the applicant’s fit with the duties and responsibilities.
- Must have experience working in church with youth and children
- Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree, have a clear background check, and a driver’s license.
